Foiling Towards a Sustainable Future

From first flight to MEBC

After more than three years of development, the Lobst’Air finally took to the water. Following an intense period of testing, repairs, and refinements, the team achieved its first successful flight above the waves, marking a major milestone for the project. Only a few days later, Swiss Solar Boat headed to the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. Throughout the competition, the team faced technical challenges, demanding races, and difficult sea conditions that put both the boat and its crew to the test. Through constant adaptation and teamwork, they kept the boat racing and ultimately brought home an incredible overall victory. But the adventure is far from over. The Lobst’Air remains a floating laboratory, with plenty of room for further development, testing, and improvement. More than the results themselves, this journey reflects the determination, resilience, and collective effort that have driven the project from the beginning.

This Year's New Horizons

Building on the experience gained with the Lobst’Air and its first international competition, the team is now entering a new phase of development. The next challenge is to refine its systems, improve reliability, and push performance even further, with the goal of returning to Monaco with a stronger and faster boat. At the same time, the team is looking beyond competition with the creation of the Green Ribbon, a new long-distance race on Lake Geneva dedicated to boats powered by renewable energy. Inspired by the Blue Ribbon speed challenge, the Green Ribbon will bring together teams developing new solutions for sustainable waterborne transportation. The 160 km round trip between Geneva and Le Bouveret will put both endurance and technology to the test, while providing a new setting to demonstrate what renewable energy can achieve on the water.
